Something Saturday - A bit of Perspective

 Hi there Creators,

Today I wanted to show you how to create a checkers board, as I recently got the Latte Love Bundle (totally unrelated I know) but there are a couple of little oval shaped die pieces in it, that set me in mind of checkers.

However before this, I woke up the other day with an image on my mind that I thought would make a great card, it was a little fiddly adding all the squares to the background, which I then sanded to create the oldy, woldy look, but I really love the look, what do you think?

Adventurous Sky Bundle, Stampin' Up!

Anyway moving onto the cards I create in the video, then I'll give you the measurements, I wasn't sure that the little ovals from the Latte Love bundle were going to work once I had the board made, but discovered that if I stacked them they did work!  I then discovered (disappointingly that checkers only go on the black squares, and of course the black on black don't show up so well!)😔  However I thought it would be a bit tongue in cheek to add this saying 🤣the saying and frame come from Unbounded Love Bundle (has some fabulous sayings and frames in this one!)

Checkers Board, Perspective, Stampin' Up!

Checkers Board, Perspective, Stampin' Up!

This second card uses the Sweetly Scripted Stamp set which is an "online exclusive" (just means it's not in the physical catalogue).

Whilst some of the squares weren't perfect, I'm still really happy with the way they both turned out.

Onto the measurements:

you need a white & black piece of card

  • measuring 9.2cm x 12cm, cut them in 1/2 at 6cm
  • cut a slant on one side of each, so the top measures 4cm and the bottom is 6cm
  • then you need to cut each one into slices, along the top of each measure 1, 2 & 3 cms, and along the bottom of each measure 1.5cm, 3cm and 5.5cm, and cut  (make sure you keep them in the order you cut them in, or it's quite hard to work out which is which)
  • lay them out so you have alternating black and white strips, there should be 8 in a row, turn them over and add cellotape all over the back (you'll end up with 2 pieces that look like a pedestrian crossing!)
  • now you need to cut them across ways, from the bottom (widest end) you'll measure up starting at 1.5cm, then going down 1mm for each cut, so.....  1.5cm, 2.9cm, 4.2cm, 5.4cm, 6.5cm 7.5cm, and 8.4cm  that way as the board is perceived to be further away, so the squares reduce in size too.
  • Do this to both pieces, then attach them alternating the strips to another piece of cardstock, and trim round it once it's all on.

Clear as Mud?🤣

Something Saturday - Hello Hollyhocks Card Kit

 Hi there Creators,

Today we're having a look at this gorgeous Hello Hollyhocks Card Kit at only $25 it's a bit of a steal!  with this kit you create 9 cards.  Although potentially you could create more, by cutting the base cards up as they are coloured on both sides,

Here are 3 of the cards I created with this kit then a bonus card

Hello Hollyhocks Card Kit, Stampin' Up!

Hello Hollyhocks Card Kit, Stampin' Up!

Hello Hollyhocks Card Kit, Stampin' Up!
This was my "off cut" card as the frame came out of the bits for the green card, it seemed a shame just to throw it out!  I've teamed it up with the beautiful Stippled Roses Stamp set and matching Stippled roses dies, Oh and not forgetting the bling......Adhesive Backed Pearl Trio 💖
Hello Hollyhocks Card Kit, Stampin' Up!
How gorgeous is this bling though from the kit?!

Something Saturday - Creating Frames using Paper Trimmer

 Hi There Creators,

Today as I was cutting things with my Paper Trimmer I thought Oh I wonder if I've ever taught people how to create frames with their trimmer, so just in case I haven't, here we go.........

In the video I simply show how to position the Trimmer and cardstock to be able to cut out a rectangle from the middle of it and create a frame, I find it really handy to do this, you can create a great effect without lots of bulk, for example with this card, if I was to use single layers it would end up with 7 layers and fairly heavy and bulky, in some respects it's like faux matting!

Stampin' Up!, Paper Timmer, Keeping Tabs

And then on the plus side you end up with the inside pieces to also use......  Love conserving cardstock! These 2 cards use 3 of the new In Colours for this year: Shy Shamrock, Petunia Pop and Pretty in Pink, so of course they needed the new In Colour bling: In Colour Shimmer Gems.  And the Stamp/Punch set I used is Keeping Tabs

Stampin' Up!, Paper Timmer, Keeping Tabs

I then may have got a little carried away, with making cards using the Ephemera Packs, and creating frames...And the funny thing is I didn't really think I'd like the Ephemera Packs when I first saw them, but gee they're addictive once you get creating 🤣 paired up with various bling, my favourite currently is the Adhesive Backed Shiny Sequins, Oh my goodness I love the colours in them, and the fact they don't have a hole in the middle makes them look like gems and not sequins!  And I used the Simply Said stamp set that is recommended to go with the ephemera packs, it has a fabulous selection of sayings 😃

Something Saturday - Trifold Tools Card

 Hi There Creators,

I had this fabulous idea of how I could have the tools cut out from a card, and sticking up, until I tried it and discovered it didn't work 🤣  Then I had another fabulous idea, so let me know what you think.....

I've used the Trusty Tools Stamp set and matching Trusty Tools Dies.  Which I'm happy to say have carried over from last year's catalogue, such a handy "blokey" set! (and of course some of us females are also tool nuts 🤣)

Here is the card I ended up making in the video: I have added some of the Take to the Sky designer series paper to the background of it, and I'm really happy with the way it turned out

Trusty Tools, Stampin' Up!

Trusty Tools, Stampin' Up!
And in this last shot you can see the "shadow" effect of the tools on the back.  I have cut the tools 1/2 out from the card, then added the layer of tools (stamped) on top, then added a layer of gray under the cut away to create the shadow.
Trusty Tools, Stampin' Up!

I ended up preferring it as a triangle fold rather than an up and over, which was my initial thought

What do you think?

Something Saturday - Take to the Sky

 Hi there Creators,

Well, this week the video wasn't the longest, partly because I couldn't make up my mind how to finish off the card I am using the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper (DSP for short).  Partly as I don't yet own the stamp & die set "Adventurous Sky" which is happily in the the sale this month (there's 10% extra off stamp & die bundles till the end of June and also on the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machines)😁check out this link for all the bargains:  10% off Sale

So here we go.......

This is the card I was playing with, I ended up changing the base card colour to Copper Clay which comes out in the airplanes, I've used the Unbounded Love stamp set to go with this card (and actually all the cards in this post!)

Take to the Sky, Stampin' Up!
The next card I made up I used the Everyday Details Dies to create the frame piece, the cool thing with this is that it creates an inside frame as well as an outside frame (ie the holes are on both sides of the die cut (if that makes sense?)
Take to the Sky, Stampin' Up!
and here's the inside piece of the same die cut!
Take to the Sky, Stampin' Up!

And that's it!

If you missed the video, here it is.....

I hope this inspires you to play with your designer papers

Something Saturday - Designer Paper Card

Hi there Creators

Today I wanted to create something that would show off both sides of the Designer Paper, I'd seen a design I liked, but of course in typical Heather style it didn't turn out the way I'd seen 🤣 Having said that I'm really happy with it, I've used the Mediterranean Blooms Paper, and YAY the Citrus Blooms dies actually cut out some of the paper (gotta love that!)

There is currently a special 10% off sale on the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machines, and also an extra 10% off on some of the Stamp & Die bundles (so you'll get 20% off as they already have 10% off them - if that makes sense)

So here is the card closed

Mediterranean Blooms, Stampin' Up!
Then as you open it up, you get to see the next layer of designer paper, and the inside of the designer Paper that is the outside cover.
Mediterranean Blooms, Stampin' Up
Just realised I forgot to take a photo of the inside/inside bit lol, but when you lift the flap you see the lemons on the underside of the navy paper (you can see the pattern that was folded over at the bottom.
Mediterranean Blooms, Stampin' Up

So..... to create this card I took

  • the outside sheet of Designer Series Paper (DSP for short) cut down to 6", then scored at 4" and 8", then the front 2 flaps cut on a diagonal to a matching point up on each side (my point was about 2" up)
  • A 3 7/8"  x 12" piece of DSP for the middle bit, folded in 1/2 at 6"
  • a 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of white cardstock to go inside the above piece (for writing on)

The inside DSP gets attached in the middle of the trifold DSP, then I folded up a section on the bottom to see the other side of the DSP (mine is about 1").

I also folded the outer flaps on the tri-fold DSP over to display both sides of the paper from the front

Then I decorated up with some pieces of the DSP cut out with the matching dies.
