I got asked in my last Pastels video to do more on pastels, so this week I'm showing off another technique that uses Pastels and Versamark.
The thing with pastels is it really needs something to "set" the pastels into the card, or they will rub off, I always used to use hairspray to set it.
Anyway onto the cards and technique: I've used the Whale Done stamp set as the pastel gets rubbed onto black cardstock so it feels quite dark and like the depths of the ocean to me.
Anyway the way to do the technique is...
Colour the black cardstock with pastels, then take a tissue and rub it into the cardstock, so it colours the card all over, make sure there's no loose pastel left on the card.
Next take your stamps, ink with Versamark, and stamp, you'll find it pulls off the pastel, and reveals the black cardstock (so fascinating when you do it!)
well as I mentioned last week I thought I'd have a go with the dies this week! I love the way you can get the windmill vanes to spin - took a little bit of playing with but I got there in the end.

I'm also quite partial to the cute little bike lol. as the windmill vanes are quite delicate, I've doubled up the cardstock layer for it, and also strengthened the middle with some window sheeting.
As I picked Balmy Blue card for the base, it meant I could add fluffy white clouds on top, using the cloud dies as stencils and using the White Craft Ink, then using some scrap paper to create a line I've added granny apple green below for some grass.
well finally the Tulip Fields came off the ship and into stock.... and then out to me!
Today in my video I showed the Tulip Fields Bundle, and then only used the stamp set to create a quick and easy card. However I did figure I could use the dies next Saturday, so come back again to find out what I do with the dies!
However today's video, in one of our Stampin' Up! events one of the demos used this set, and showed us how to line up the perspective Tulip fields
Here is the card I created:
I have to admit if I was making again, I think I'd stamp the windmill first, as I stamped it after the tulips and it kind of "floated" above them, hence the line of blue border flowers!
Anyway lining up the triangles is quite easy, stamp the long double one first, to create the "horizon", then the middle one, then 2 more either side - lets face it how many times do you see flowers really precise?, so I reckon we can get away with it being "close enough"
To get the clouds I've used the same blue as the blue border flowers (Pacific Point) but as that was a bit dark for the clouds I've stamped off first on scrap paper. And the last thing I did was using my blender pen to "pull" the colour from the edges of the windmill, so it wasn't quite so white.
And there you have it a nice simple one layer card!
Today I felt like using my new Soft Pastels (which haven't had much of a work out yet despite owning them for a couple of months now)
We got given this "Amazing Silhouettes" stamp set at a recent conference and initially I wondered what the heck I would do with it 🤣 but I always used to love this technique and I figured it would work well with this set (I'm happy to say I think it does!)
On to the photos then a description for you.....
The technique is called Popping Pastels, as you can see it creates a beautiful light delicate image.
You'll need Versamark (and versamark refill if your pad is a bit dry - best if it's a bit juicy), Pastels, and cotton wool balls (and obviously a stamp set🤣)
What you do is ink up your stamp with versamark, stamp it (you won't be able to see it) Then puff pastels onto it - I scribble my pastels onto a scrap bit of paper first to get "dust", and pick up the dust from that. As you puff the pastel dust onto it, it clings to the versamark and your image magically appears (so cool!) you can add more than one colour to build up the colour you have on it, on this last tree I used about 4 colours. The versamark will "set" the pastels in place for you.
Feels like ages since I've done a regular class! however not quite back to normal yet, February's class is on Wednesday 9th Feb 10.30am or 7pm, it'll be a $20 class for the 4 cards, with written instructions and envelopes. Then March we'll get back to the first Wednesday of the month.

Well today I was showing how to make a One Sheet Wonder (for those uninitiated) it's where you stamp up a sheet of paper or take a piece of Designer Paper, cut it several ways and make a heap of cards up from it.
Here are the first set of cards I made before the video I've used some of the Brights colours with a white background for these ones:
In the video I mention that I plan to dress up the cards a bit more, I've used the cute Brushed Brass Butterflies 158136 $ 17.50 for these cards:
The cards I made in the video have use the In Colours on a Vanilla Background:
And I've used the 2021 - 2023 In Colour Jewels (they're so pretty) and of course go beautifully with the ink colours!
Instructions.....
First up take your piece of A4 White or Vanilla card, and stamp it up, I go with stamping the largest stamp randomly first, then moving down to the smallest stamp (make sure you leave room for the different stamps, but working this way, you should be able to fill in the small gaps with the smallest stamps)
Once you're happy with the way the whole sheet looks you can start cutting, here is my (rough) cutting guide for A4 sheet: Cut the whole sheet in1/2 so you have 2 A5 sheets, fold one of these in 1/2 to make one card, then cut the other sheet, as shown:
then you can decide on colours to go under each piece, I used a 2.5cm piece under all the 2cm strips, then found some random scraps for the other 2 cards
The first card has the 3 strips mounted on coloured card strips and attached to the card, with a saying at the bottom
2nd card has the 2 strips, again mounted onto coloured card, and attached in a cross shape to your card.
Cards 3 & 4 just use the stamped piece as the focal point of each card.
Card 5 is stamped on both the front and the back, just for something different!, but if you didn't want that, you could use the A5 sheet to make 4 more cards like the first 4 or just cut it in 1/2 and stick on the front of a card!
Anyway this time I figured I'd show how to make a single layer card, I think I used all but one of the masks.
Here is the initial card I had made up before the video I'd used the Regals colour palette for this card: Real Red for the butterfly, Rich Razzleberry and Blackberry Bliss for the central flowers, Cherry Cobbler for the single flower, and Shaded Spruce for the leaves, Oh and Crushed Curry on the background
Then this card I made in the video using Brights colours palette, (and a sneaky subtle...)
I've used Flirty Flamingo for the butterfly, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point for the central flowers, Mango Melody for the single flower, with Granny Apple Green for the leaves, then Soft Sea Foam for the background. I personally prefer this one, where I swapped the background and inside butterfly masks over. As you can see there is something extra on there! It's the gorgeous Gilded Leafing 😊
It's pretty simple to create this card (and cheap! - gotta like that!)
Lay down the butterfly outer mask then pop whichever mask you want showing inside it over top, and hold it firmly in place (if any of it is really close to the edge, add a bit of scrap paper under the edge of the mask, so you don't accidentally colour anywhere extra on your card) then daub or brush over top the colour of your choice. When this is covered, remove the top mask and keep the bottom mask still there, then daub from the outside of the mask, allowing the middle to stay light.
The middle flowers use 2 masks on one, start with what I consider to be the one on the bottom of the sheet. It's the more filled in mask, if you do that one first then the more delicate one lines up a lot easier, with the top and bottom flowers (don't try and line it up with the 2 side flowers as it doesn't make sense that way)
The single flower can be done so you do one part then the other and it can either sit directly on top of each other or you can offset it as I've done on this card., then of course add the leaves!
The Gilded Leafing is added by drawing on fine lines of glue - I use the Tombow thin end (Multipurpose Liquid Glue), allow it to dry slightly, then dunk in the gilded leafing, and brush off the excess (I use a sponge for this)
