Something Saturday - Cool Altered Gift

 Hi there Creators,

Not sure about you, but sometimes I find odd things in Charity shops that I think oooo I could do something with that, so of course it comes home with me, and goes in the craft room with an aim to do something with it, months later I remember about it.....

I found a couple of chunky wooden sayings, quite a while ago, and finally got round to doing something with them!

My something is to attach designer paper to them to make them look prettier (and not so white)  First up though we explored the "intricacies" of the Take your pick tool, I have to admit there is so much to love about this tool and there's a few extra options you might not know about:  Here are the links to check them out: Take your pick tool to begin with, then if you run out of putty (although you get 2 with the tool itself there is the Take your pick Putty refills.  But wait there's more.... there's the Take your Pick Die Brush Tip (with a special mat) and last but not least the Take your pick Crafter Tips, which gives you 2 special tips & blades.

Anyway on to the show & tell part, here's the one I show how to do in the video:  I have used the gorgeous Regal Winter Designer Series paper for this which happily has been reduced from $21.75 down to $19.57, having said that it's only while stocks last, so get yours now if you want it!

The other one I created the other day is this one, which the recipient now has! and uses the gorgeous Perennial Lavender Designer Series paper.

I hope this inspires you to have a go at this too!

Something Saturday - Click Clack Concertina Card

 Hi there Creators

Well I was sitting last night wondering what to do for my Something Saturday, and playing around with a bit of paper, ended up designing this card, I've made similar cards before like the cascade cards, this is probably a bit more basic, but I'm happy with it and it's way simpler to create, but still packs a cool Woah factor🤣  I've used Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper which is on the last chance list.

Stampin' Up!, Click Clack Concertina Card

I decided it needed a sentiment so picked out this one from Sweetest Star Stamp set (last chance list again), because it has 6 words (1 for each panel!😃) and these Adhesive backed Snowflake Assortment are also on the last chance list and happen to be reduced to 1/2 price (woo hoo!)

Stampin' Up!, Click Clack Concertina Card

Stampin' Up!, Click Clack Concertina Card

Ok, onto measurements....

You'll need a sheet of A4 for the base card, score it at 9.9cm either end, then cut in 1/2 at 10.5cm, fold so each piece is concertina'd into 1/3rd's

then each folded piece needs a cut that goes 1/2 way up the card (in the middle)  I measured just a smidgen under 5cm along, then 5.3cm up (cut all 3 layers in one go)

Turn one of the pieces up the other way and voila! they should slot in together to form this criss cross card.

It would make a great card any time of year for any occasion depending on how you decorate it.

Something Saturday - Gift Box Card

 Hi there Creators

Today I got inspired by a gorgeous card sent to me, and I have to say my card is nothing like the one I was sent, partly because I used completely different measurements and turned it on it's side, as they say in Thailand, "same same but different" 🤣

So this is how my card turned out:  I've used the new Online paper Marbled Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Oh my goodness isn't it gorgeous?! I've nicked one of the sayings from Sweetest Star Bundle to add to the top, and the fabulous Drusy Embellishments (Oh I really hope they don't retire!)  And I thought this ribbon was still current, oops! (would have used the Cherry Cobbler & Gold ribbon, but I ran out of it.)

Stampin' Up!, 3D pop up card, Marbled Elegance

Stampin' Up!, 3D pop up card, Marbled Elegance
In the video I mention that I'll share my measurements with you in my blog, so here goes....

You'll need a coloured base card, cut lengthways, scored at 14.8cm (in the middle) then at one end trim 1cm off each side, and score that side at 3.7vm, 7.4cm, and 11.1cm  (see the mud map)

this then rolls round to form the base "box"  HOWEVER don't do what I did!
NB: Before you roll this up and stick it down, make sure you add a layer of Designer paper behind it, I used 4" x 14.5cm
then add 2 pieces of Designer Paper to the bottom "Box" 8cm x 3.2cm
Next create the middle "box" this is a piece 6.5cm x 12cm, scored at 3cm, 6cm, and 9cm
You'll need 2 pieces of Designer Paper measuring 6cm x 2.5cm
The top box is 4.5cm x 10cm scored at 2.5cm, 5cm and 7.5cm
And you'll need 2 pieces of Designer Paper measuring 4cm x 2cm
then you'll also want a piece for the bottom of your card to make sure it doesn't tip backwards when it's opened I had a cut off piece after making one of the boxes that is just under 4cm wide, I've then cut it so it sticks out by 1cm at the front and back of the card (about 8cm long)
I also added the 3 drusy embellishments on the front flap to add a bit of weight just in case, having said that I'm not really sure they do add much weight as they're pretty light🤣  but they do look rather gorgeous!

and pretty much that's it.

If you missed the video here it is, could be handy to watch it to see how I add the components together.

I hope this inspires you to have a go

Something Saturday - Stars Wreath

 Hi there Creators

Well after teaching the wreath the other day I had an idea.......

Actually I'm really happy with the way it turned out, and potentially if we don't get our sitting room painted properly soon it could be the only Christmas decoration I can get to in the house🤣 currently everything is packed away in the "playroom" at the back of which is all the Christmas dec's!

Ah well the painting looks good so far, and I'm loving the new carpet!

What happened at my second class was one of the ladies brought these lovely wooden wreaths to make hers on instead, so she had a spare and I could just imagine what it would look like with the stars in the middle and some sheer fabric of some sort for them to sit on.  A delve into my fabric cupboard and voila!  I found the gorgeous sheer but patterned fabric, stapled it onto the back of the wreath and away we go.....

Ok, well you probably came here to see how the wreath turned out......Ta Da:

Sweetest Star, Stampin' Up!
I have used the Sweetest Star Punch, which also happens to come as a bundle, funnily enough called "sweetest star bundle" 😃  And I've used the beautiful Season of Green & Gold Specialty Designer Series Paper.
Sweetest Star, Stampin' Up!

Sweetest Star, Stampin' Up!

Having thought it out, if I did this again, I'd cut the back piece first before adding the material so I could draw round the outside and inside of the ring, but as they say, Hindsight's a wonderful thing!

If you missed the video, here it is:

I think it would make a lovely gift (not sure that I'll be parting with mine though 🤣)

So I hope this inspires you to maybe have a go too!

Something Saturday - 3D Star Cards

 Hi there Creators

In class the other day Rose mentioned she'd seen this card on Facebook or Youtube from a lady called Dee Slater, and showed me a photo of it, and explained briefly how to make it, she then sent me through a few measurements (all inches) and if you know me, I'm an A4 metric girl, so conversion time.... (actually not very difficult this time)

And Voila.....

3D Star Card, Stampin' Up!, 3D card, fancy fold
and of course the back view....

3D Star Card, Stampin' Up!, 3D card, fancy fold

So that is the card I made in the video using the Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper, I kind of like that I was able to keep the pattern going all the way round.  Then I happened to have one of the Decorative Tree Dies cut out from the Festive Glimmer Paper (bonus, love it when things are just hanging around my craft desk and they come in handy!)

Then I kept the fun going, and decided to make an 8 pointed star card.... (this one is the shorter size) This time I used the Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper.
3D Star Card, Stampin' Up!, 3D card, fancy fold

and back....

3D Star Card, Stampin' Up!, 3D card, fancy fold
And then just so you can see them both together.....
3D Star Card, Stampin' Up!, 3D card, fancy fold

The mechanism part for attaching the front & back pieces:

Right, so, measurements as promised

If you are making the 6 pointed larger card that ends up A6 sized and fits nicely into a C6 envelope:

  • 6 pieces of A6 cardstock (ie 10.5cm x 14.8cm) each one scored at: 2.5cm, 5cm, 7.5cm and 10cm
  • 12 pieces of a plain colour card 2cm x 14.5cm
  • 12 pieces of Designer Paper 1.5cm x 14cm
  • 2 mechanism pieces 6cm x 1cm, scored at cm, 2cm, 4cm and 5cm
  • a decorative piece for the front
  • a piece for the back to write on I used a plain colour 10.5cm x 7.4cm, then white piece 9.9cm x 7cm (both cut exactly from a piece of A4)
If you're making the 8 point smaller card you'll need:
  • 8 pieces of 10.5cm x 9.9cm, scored at 2.3cm, 4.6cm, 6.9cm and 9.2cm
  • 16 pieces of plain colour card: 10cm x 3/4" (yes I know breaking the metric rule! 🤣)
  • 16 pieces of Designer Paper 4" x 1/2"
  • 2 mechanism pieces as above
  • decorative piece for the front
  • smaller pieces for the back I used: 8cm x 5.7cm, and white 7.5cm x 5.2cm (although I think that's because I happened to find both those sizes precut!)

And that's it!  If you missed the video here it is:

I hope this inspires you to have a go too!

December Class Cards

 Hi there Creators

Wowsers December already, and Christmas is just round the corner!

I made up 4 cards then decided I wasn't happy with one of them, so switched it out for a card that is literally the star of the show!  As it does require a fair bit of cutting on my behalf I really need to know who's coming a few days in advance so I can have the right amount of kits made.

Class Dates are Tuesday 3rd Dec in my classroom in Laanecoorie and Saturday 14th Dec at Wattle City Church Maryborough - yes there is a big gap between the 2 due to the Carol Service rehearsal on 7th Dec that I'm in  (so exciting)!  As usual we'll be making 4 cards for a cost of $24.

And on to the projects.....

Let's start with the "star of the show", A 6 pointed Star Card, using the gorgeous Season of Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper, and the Sweetest Star Punch. (photos of front & back)

3D card, Stampin' Up!, Season of Elegance

3D card, Stampin' Up!, Season of Elegance

Moving away from elegance to cute, and this uses the Reindeer Days Designer Series paper, The Gold Mercury Vellum, the More Wishes Stamp set, oh and also the Dashing Designs 3D embossing folder (which actually I thought the name was highly appropriate with the reindeer - I think I'll call him Dasher 🤣)

And again another "cute'sy" card using the Snowy Scenes Designer Series paper, the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch and the Light the Sky stamp set.

Snowy Scenes, Light the Sky, Stampin' Up!

And lastly this rocker card, which I really wanted to be a Christmas Card, but I can't work out where to put the greeting other than inside that I actually like, so potentially it can be a "whatever you want it to be card" this one uses the gorgeous Elegant Borders Dies, Regal Winter Designer Series Paper  and the lovely Blackberry Bliss & Gold textured Ribbon.
elegant border dies, regal winter dsp, Stampin' Up!

Well that's it - as they say that's a wrap folks!  In the New Year I'll be doing my usual January Mega Class on 18th January, I'm hoping my pre-order will arrive soon so I can start creating for it and work out exactly what we're going to use.

Remember to make sure you let me know if you can make it to December Class!

hope these cards inspire you to create!

Something Saturday - Natures Paintings Kit

 Hi there Creators,

I was excited to receive this Natures Paintings kit, it's kind of like getting a colouring in book, but using watercolour instead😍

So for the video I picked out one of the designs to colour in and showed off 4 ways to use the watercolour pencils, and water painter that come with the kit.

The 4 ways are:

  • using the pencils direct to paper, then using the water painter to move the colour around
  • using the water painter to "lick" the colour off the tip of the pencil and colour with it
  • colouring a block onto a scrap bit of paper, and using that as a dry paint block, ie add water and use that to colour with
  • then lastly and my preferred way, is to add a drop of water to a clear block, then scribble the pencil into the drop until it colours it, then paint with this.
I can't show you specifically where I used which technique as they kind of end up looking the same, however as I mentioned in the video I did think I could split the piece into 3 for 3 cards, and voila........

Stampin' Up! Natures Paintings kit

the first one uses the Sweetly Scripted Stamp set in the background, and some of the Adhesive backed dragonflies & birds.

Stampin' Up! Natures Paintings kit

these next 2 use this lovely saying from Layers of Beauty Stamp set.

Stampin' Up! Natures Paintings kit

I'm really happy with the way it cut up so easily to create the 3 cards, the last card uses pieces from both sides of the design, whereas the other 2 use the top section and the bottom section individually.

Something Saturday - Twisted Star Ornament

 Hi there Creators

I saw this cool star ornament in another video, and had a bit of a play around with it, ending up with this.... (with a retired Designer Series Paper)

Twisted Star Ornament, Being CreateAble with Heather

Twisted Star Ornament, Being CreateAble with Heather

Then I ended up making this one (somewhat puffier 🤣) in the video with the current Natures Sweetness Specialty Designer Series Paper

Twisted Star Ornament, Being CreateAble with Heather

Twisted Star Ornament, Being CreateAble with Heather

Ok, to make this you'll need 16 strips of 15cm x 1cm Designer Paper & glue (I used tombow)
Use 8 of the pieces for each side of the star, you twist them like a Breast Cancer ribbon, but with a small "head section" and have a gap of around 4cm at the free end, and around 4cm of the 2 free arms (if that makes sense, it should if you've seen the video!)

you then glue 8 of the "heads" together to make the middle of the star
then the tails glue together to form the points.
once you've made up 2 of these, you then glue them back to back, adding a piece of twine into the last point

Something Saturday - Origami Star Box

 Hi There Creators

Today I thought I'd share this Origami Star box I discovered this origami star box when one of my friends from church mentioned she'd found it in a kids book, and thought it would be fun to do with the kids for Christmas.  Of course, me being me I had to have a go at it straight away, bit of trial and error and I had it (or so I thought until the video....)  But my mistakes are your gain, as I think it probably clarifies how to create it properly (sometimes it's better to see someone else's mis"steaks"🤣 and you realise what not to do)

Anyway these are the boxes:

As I mentioned in the video, there's no way I can do "written" instructions for this, so please watch the video if you haven't!

And here are the boxes I created:

If you missed the video here it is:

I hope this inspires you to have a go (let's look on the bright side, it you probably won't make the same mistake as me🤣)

Textured Floral & Templates

 Hi There Creators,

today I thought I'd show off this Textured Floral Stamp set (it's sooo pretty), and then in the catalogue there is a page that has a few template designs on it (or card sketches), so figured I could have a go at those designs to give you an idea of how to use them😃  This is the first 6 designs in the book:

However, first off I created a piece of customer Designer Paper using the stamp set, and colours: Soft Sea Foam for my green, then Petunia Pop, Fresh Freesia, Bubble Bath for my pinks, and Crushed Curry, Daffodil Delight and Lemon Lolly for my yellows

Stampin' Up! Textured Floral Stamps

This first "smile" card is the one I created in the video, then I moved onwards to the next 6 designs getting them all out of this one sheet of A4 cardstock (and adding some plain colour card for the backing bits), I've also used some of the Petunia Pop Ribbon cut in 1/2 lengthways so it's wasn't so bulky, and also the Labelled with Love Punch.

Stampin' Up! Textured Floral Stamps

Stampin' Up! Textured Floral Stamps

Stampin' Up! Textured Floral Stamps

Then I was left with 2 bits of my patterned cardstock, so this card came into being (I just couldn't leave - or throw out the last 2 pieces 🤣)  I had to get my stamps back out to create a bit more of a background for it, but Oh my goodness what a pretty set, I'm definitely happy that I bought this one!

I hope this inspires you to create your own Designer Paper and have a go at some of the templates in the catalogue.

Something Saturday - Christmas Wishes Kit

Hi There Creators,

Today I thought I'd show off this new kit I brought the other day, oooo it has gold foiling in it, ummmm💖😍 Christmas Wishes Kit, it contains a stamp set, mini ink pad and stampin' block as well as the cardstock to create 8 cards, although, having said 8 truly if you are economical and prepared to do a spot of cutting and adding more cardstock, then you can double it, as the base cards are the same pattern on each side (woo hoo!)

The official 2 cards it makes are these 2: the one saying Merry, Merry, Christmas was actually meant to have 3 "Merry"s on it but in my typical way I changed it 😃

Stampin' Up! Christmas Wishes Kit

Stampin' Up! Christmas Wishes Kit

I did discover that inside the cards is this rather lovely gold square frame with leaf, which I thought would look lovely on the front of a card (plus it takes opening up the card before you start to make sure it's on the correct side and the right way up - and I didn't 🤣)  So this card came into being, using some of bits I cut off the edges to create 3 strips down the bottom of the card:

Stampin' Up! Christmas Wishes Kit

Then lastly I felt a need to use the other 1/2 of the above card - and just happened to have this circle hanging around in my scraps pile (very convenient), I have stamped the leaves from the set onto the circle lightly as a background.

If you missed the video here it is:

If you do fancy purchasing this kit there is a kits discount this month so it's only $36.90 and not $41 for the month of October (woo hoo!)

Regal Winter DSP, Spotlight on Nature Dies, Stampin' Up!

Now we're onto a clear run of Christmas Cards.  I love this look, where it looks like you're looking up in the middle of a forest, I've used a stamp from the fabulous Christmas Wishes Kit, for the saying and the trees are from Peaceful Evergreens.

Stampin' Up! Christmas Wishes Kit, Peaceful Evergreens

Next up is this rather cute tree from the Decorative Tree Dies, and the cool Forever Plaid 3D embossing folder background

Stampin' Up! Decorative Trees Dies, Forever Plaid 3D EF

Last but not least is this card using the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper, I wasn't sure I'd actually like this paper, but there you go it makes a great card!  I've paired it up with the Citrus Blooms Dies and the Peaceful Season Bundle for the saying and die cut square, and the Basics 3D embossing folder.

And that's it folks!

Something Saturday - Shepherds Care meets Snowy Delights Masks

Hi there Creators,  Today I thought I'd play around with a couple of my latest goodies, Shepherds Care Stamp set and Snowy Delights Mas...
